 Electric Excel Toastoy 1920s
|
Toys are as old as humankind. Children often enjoy toys they allow them to imitate the activities of adult -- from war to housekeeping. So it's no surprise that there are toy toasters, and lots of them.
What is surprising is that some of the early electric toaster toys were actually designed to toast bread, like the Toastoy shown at left. The Toastoy, at about 5 inches high, could handle a half slice of bread. This toy gives a glimpse into, if not a more innocent time, at least a less litigious one.

This item is a Toast Stamp, you press it into your bread before toasting and you get a cheery imprinted message that remains lighter than the more darkly toasted surface. It works best with white bread.
